Does the military like calling their enemy names?
Read "All Quiet On the Western Front". Specifically the chapter when he is in the arty hole with the slowly-dying frenchman. Killing is hard when you stop and think that your target has a wife, kids, a father, a mother etc. When you view the enemy as an equal, you lose the edge, and that edge is arguably what keeps you alive. When you box, or fight competitively, you have to KNOW you are the baddest MFer alive, or else you will be fighting scared, and that is a sure way to defeat. By "name-calling" it dehumanizes the enemy and makes it eaiser to go on another 6 hour combat patrol 3 hours after you just got back from the last one.
